"Women, holding the distinction of being able to breastfeed, thus more often maintained the home, with men making up a sizeable fraction of the workforce."
-Effects of the Industrial Revolution, Wikipedia
lately i've heard a few grumblings about women in the workforce and the poor, neglected men of the world. i guess it never goes away. personally, i'm looking forward to being able to stay home- i told michael, goddamit, i'm not ironing anything, but i do actually like to do laundry. and i like to cook... for myself. i like to make banana bread or cookies or biscuits or whatnot. and i want to have kids- maybe. but i guess the difference is in the choice, my favorite word in a disagreement on abortion. michael said hell, HE wants to stay home. choice, chance, we'll see.
but i digress. all the grumblings i've heard lately, or ever heard, have never once brought up this simple point. because, i give it to wikipedia, it's true.
by no means am i saying women should pack up their office photos and move it back into the kitchen, but it's a good reason of history. and to all the grumblings i've heard, the reason for the present is, quite simply, things have changed.
